From the White House to American households, health care reform is a hot topic these days, and for good reason. As the nation debates how we can best advance quality health care and reduce runaway costs, our latest Broadband Now video highlights how broadband can help.
From uniting patients and doctors regardless of geography to speeding next generation innovations that lower health care expenditures, broadband can play a significant role in unleashing health care advances. Here are some examples of the difference broadband can make:
Remote Monitoring. Thanks to broadband-enabled remote monitoring, patients receive quality care in the comfort of their homes, transmitting vital signs in real-time to caregivers who respond to medically-significant changes.
Two-Way Video. Transcending geography, broadband-powered two-way video can unite patients and caregivers even in remote pockets of the country, improving the quality of their health care. According to one study focusing on elderly veterans, the combination of at-home telemonitoring, video visits and coordinated care resulted in a 63% drop in hospital admissions.
Health Savings. From digitizing medical records to increasing efficiency, broadband can help reduce health care costs. In fact, the study "Vital Signs Via Broadband" projects health care expenditures could be cut by nearly $200 billion over the next 25 years by using broadband to help manage four chronic diseases.
