The First Broadband Presidency

This election season, candidates harnessed the power of broadband in unprecedented ways to help secure key victories. Now President-elect Barack Obama is making clear the critical role technology will play in his Administration. In our new Broadband Now video, USTelecom discusses the role broadband played in the election and how this technology focus will unfold in our nation's first broadband presidency. Broadband also impacts a primary presidential priority: the economy. In fact, just a 7% increase in broadband adoption could keep or create 2.4 million American jobs, and broadband providers are speeding deployment and next generation networks by investing tens of billions of dollars annually in U.S. communications infrastructure.
Given the substantial impact of broadband on our economy, USTelecom has dedicated our video wall to showcasing key statistics. For example, the broadband-powered IT sector created more than half of all net new jobs, and information technology was responsible for nearly one-fifth of all U.S. GDP growth last year.
