Delivering Broadband to Rural Consumers
March 28, 2008
Written by: Sarah Versaggi
Broadband communications can dramatically help those in rural areas and strengthen rural economies, through services like distance learning and telemedicine. USDA's Rural Utilities Services helps by providing low interest loans and even some grants to providers to construct facilities as an investment in the infrastructure, economic growth and people of rural America. USTelecom wants to ensure that funding is most effectively targeted.
USTelecom recently submitted testimony to the House and Senate supporting the RUS telecom programs, outlining a few key ways in which the program can promote the broadband future. David Cohen, USTelecom's vp of policy, has an extensive blog item on our site.
