On Capitol Hill Today: More Heat Than Light
April 1, 2008
Written by: Pat Cleary
Here we go again, time for more political theater on Capitol Hill. The Committee on World Travel and Junkets -- so named by Rep. John Dingell (D-MI) -- is calling a number of oil company execs to testify about high oil prices -- again. It's all just so much grandstanding. If Congress really wants to get their arms around the issue, they should spend some time studying this concept, one they just can't seem to grasp.
Instead, they'll waste their time pointing fingers and cooking up theories of price-fixing involving US oil companies and state run companies in such friendly spots as Venezuela, Iran and Russia. At the end of the day, we'll be no closer to a solution to our energy problems. If only we could run our cars on political rhetoric, sound bites and hot air.
