'Colombia's Case'
April 19, 2008

Great editorial by that title in the WaPo today, shining the bright light of reason on the AFL-CIO's bogus case against the Colombian Free Trade Agreement. Guess the AFL would have more credibility if they hadn't opposed every other FTA that came down the pike. And the opposition really is puzzling. Not only do these agreements open markets to US manufacturers -- and create e lots of union jobs at major exporters like Caterpillar -- but at least this one will help shore up democracy in the region. Former AFL-CIO President Lane Kirkland was such a champion of democracy the world over, he would never have let misguided US policy shore up the likes of a Hugo Chavez by opposing this pact.
