NACDS Lauds Promo of E-Prescribing

Today's "tip of the NACDS hat" goes to Ben Worthen, blogging for The Wall Street Journal on e-prescribing. Ben notes the significance of a new campaign to inform patients about the technology. Signs are appearing in pharmacies nationwide, heralding "E-prescriptions filled here." Hopefully, patients will fall in love with the concept, and either thank their doctors for participating or encourage them to do so.
E-prescribing was covered elsewhere in the media this week, including this article on Star-Telegram.com (Texas). As quoted in the article, one pharmacist summed up the advantages quite simply: "We have the prescription before the person leaves the doctor's office, so it's ready to pick up. And there's no interpretation of the handwriting."
In addition to talking up the concept of e-scripts, anyone interested in helping to move forward legislation should take a look at Sen. John Kerry's and Rep. Allyson Schwartz' Medicare Electronic Medication and Safety Protection (E-MEDS) Act (S. 2408/H.R. 4296).
