Food Industry Making a Difference in Battle Against Childhood Obesity

You wouldn't know it because the media hasn't told you about it. Perhaps it's not controversial enough. But, the food and beverage industry is committed to battling an epidemic of frightening proportions: childhood obesity. The industry is actually doing quite a lot when it comes to empowering families to live a healthy lifestyle. As a matter of fact - yes, it's true - the food and beverage industry has a long tradition of playing an active role in helping to address the critical public health issue of obesity.
One initiative you might find surprising is the Children's Food and Beverage Advertising Initiative. Fifteen of the nation's top food and beverage manufacturers, accounting for over two-thirds of all TV advertising to children under the age of 12, are focusing nearly all of that advertising to promote healthier dietary choices and/or messages that encourage good nutrition, physical activity and healthy lifestyles.
Shocking, I know!
