Wal-Mart Named to the Green 11

I wasn't surprised when I saw Conde Nast Portfolio last week named Wal-Mart to "the Green 11 ... some of America's most eco-savvy corporations."
Conde Nast Portfolio praised Wal-Mart for "one of the most ambitious environmental plans of any U.S. company: a proposal to power every store with 100 percent renewable energy."
Just last week Wal-Mart announced efforts to seek innovative solutions for powering forklifts, harvesting wind power, closed-loop water processing, sustainable building materials and safely processing organic waste, oil-based waste and household hazardous waste.
Wal-Mart is no newcomer to environmental sustainability efforts and has not been hiding its green lamp under a bushel. It's a major influence in our development of a sustainability program for the trucking industry and has focused its suppliers' attention on the environment as well.
I look forward to more news about environmental progress from Wal-Mart President and CEO Lee Scott. It was Lee Scott who joined with the CEO of a major trucking company to call my attention to environmental sustainability in the trucking industry.
