Twin Terrors: Ike and Gustav
September 19, 2008
Written by: Jane VanRyan
Recovery efforts are continuing along the Gulf Coast as residents and businesses work toward some semblance of normalcy in the wake of Hurricanes Gustav and Ike. These back-to-back storms knocked out power, destroyed homes, flooded low-lying areas, and disrupted millions of lives.
The oil and natural gas industry also was affected and prepared for the storm's by shutting in refineries and production facilities in the path of the storms. Now it is working as quickly -- and safely -- as it can to make repairs and restart the equipment that fuels America's economy.
To explain the industry's efforts, we've posted several items at www.energytomorrow.org providing information. At the website's homepage, there is a video of API's President and CEO Red Cavaney from a news conference; written materials describing industry hurricane preparations; and a podcast with the Texas Oil and Gas Association and the US Coast Guard discussing their recovery efforts.
