Have you ever wondered what happens to offshore oil rigs when after they are decommissioned? Sometimes they are recycled and their steel is reused; but often they become habitat for fish. Under several state programs, old rigs remain standing in place or toppled and repositioned to become artiificial reefs where a profusion of coral, fish and other underwater flora and fauna can grow and prosper.
To learn more about the rigs-as-reefs program, listen to the podcast below (Episode 36) featuring Chuck Bedell of Murphy Exploration and Production USA. Also, you can view the show notes here.
