An Energy Factoid

Factoids. They're everywhere. Little nuggets of information that show up on Web sites, in colorful graphics in USA Today, and in ads.
Here's a factoid for you about U.S. energy supplies: "There is enough oil in areas accessible to America -- 112 billion barrels -- to power more than 60 million cars for 60 years."
That's just one of the points Cal Thomas makes in today's (May 13, 2008) Charlotte Observer. He also notes that the areas where the oil exists are off limits to energy companies, and Congress is "doing nothing to produce more energy."
Thomas says producing more domestic oil and natural gas could give us enough time to transition smoothly to fuels of the future, and that's a better strategy than expecting a U.S. president go to the Middle East with 'hat-in-hand" to ask for more oil supplies.
