Energy Independence: Myth or Reality?
April 15, 2008
Written by: Jane VanRyan
The term "energy independence" is often used by politicians to describe their view of the ideal U.S. energy policy. It envisions a nation that can provide all of its energy internally without importing a single drop of oil from any foreign country. But is energy independence realistic?
"No!" says author Robert Bryce. In fact, in his new book Gusher of Lies: The Dangerous Delusions of "Energy Independence," he calls this oft-spoken term "hogwash."
In a podcast taped April 14, 2008, Bryce explains how misguided policies intended to achieve energy independence can result in disastrous effects both at home and abroad.
You can listen to the audio or view the show notes for an outline of the conversation at www.energytomorrow.org.
